Resorts and Hotels News: Big boost for ADIMI charity funds | 02-Dec-11
The Costa del Sol based charity ADIMI, which works to improve the quality of life for children and young people with varying levels of disability as well as offering vital support for their families, has had its funds boosted by a €10,000 donation from Club La Costa World Resorts & Hotels. The work of the charity is close to Club La Costa’s heart and through its charitable arm, The Smile Foundation, the company has been a major sponsor of its aim to create the pioneering Cruz Dias/ADIMI Hospital in Mijas. And now it looks like the long cherished dream is near to becoming a reality – the project is in the final stages of gaining permissions, and work is set to move back into top gear, with the hope of completing the much needed hospital by the end of 2012. The President of ADIMI, Julio Diaz, received a cheque from Antonia Hagelen McIntosh, Secretary of The Smile Foundation, at CLC’s resort site outside Fuengirola. He said:”Our work makes a real difference for many families, but like many others, we have been affected by the current economic difficulties and feared we would have to make some difficult choices. This donation enables us to continue to support families and help in the personal development of so many young people.” ADIMI (Asociación de Discapacitados Mijeños) was set up in 1999 by the parents of numerous children with varying levels of disability. Since then it has developed a busy programme of activities and built a team of professionals, all tasked with helping young people with disabilities to reach their full potential. The activities include speech therapy, reading skills, swimming, theatre, ceramics and painting and the charity’s work fills the void in local services. The new state-of-the-art Cruz Dias/ADIMI Hospital, costing €3 million, will provide professional and medical staff, and offer a significant expansion in the number of activities and services available, including day centre provision for the seriously disabled, a selection of therapy rooms, gymnasium and pool. It will also offer in-hospital care, giving much needed respite to parents who devote their lives to their children, as well as ensuring the well-being and future of young people when their parents are no longer around. Club La Costa founded The Smile Foundation in 1999. The charity is dedicated to providing support, including material items, to worthwhile projects and causes in the local communities of southern Spain, and Tenerife. Club La Costa chairman Roy Peires has always felt that there is a social and moral obligation to support the local community where members of staff are privileged to live and work and where clients can have enjoyable vacations. Employees and guests at Club La Costa resorts have contributed to the Foundation’s work through donations and fund raising activities and the company absorbs all the charity’s associated administration and publicity costs. None of the committee members receives a salary or claims any expenses in respect of their work for the Foundation and 100% of all donations reach their intended destination. Through The Smile Foundation, Club La Costa has made substantial contributions to two major charitable projects: the €3 million Cruz Dias/ADIMI Hospital and the Cudeca cancer care hospice in Benalmádena.
Resorts and Hotels News: Trenython Manor star shines brightly | 18-Oct-11
Club La Costa’s Trenython Manor resort in Cornwall is now in the top ten - that’s the top ten per cent of RCI affiliated resorts who have received the prestigious RCI Gold Crown Award. The award recognises the highest level of excellence and is based on an independent on-site inspection of resort amenities, guest services, and accommodation, plus a compilation over 12 months of comment card scores completed by Trenython’s members and guests, who have marked the resort for its quality, service delivery and the overall holiday experience. Resort Manager Nick Waddington said: “This award recognises the hard work and dedication of the entire team here at Trenython. It’s a great accolade for us and now we have the Gold Crown we will be ready to meet the challenge to keep it in coming years. The team here want to say a thank-you to all our members and guests who have taken the time to fill in their comment cards. We could not have received this recognition without their support.” Trenython Manor joins the family of other Club La Costa resorts which have received the Gold Crown Award.
Resorts and Hotels News: Trenython strikes Gold again | 17-Oct-11
Club La Costa’s Trenython Manor resort in Cornwall is setting Olympian records with its awards – it has just struck Gold following a grading visit by a tough assessor from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The resort was already the proud holder of the silver award and came under scrutiny in a wide range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and commitment to flora and fauna. The resort’s recently acquired composter, which turns food waste into fertiliser, was identified as making a dramatic reduction in the amount of waste going to landfill and there was praise too for the work in the garden areas, following the development of the nesting boxes, interpretation boards, a bird hide, and the children’s garden. Significant savings to the resort’s electricity bill were also given the assessor’s seal of approval. The Green Tourism Business Scheme has been running since 1997 and with more than 2,000 members across the UK and Ireland it is the largest and most established scheme of its type in the world. The scheme helps businesses introduce and maintain good environmental practice, and encourages natural flora and fauna for future generations. Club La Costa’s resorts in the UK, Trenython Manor and Hustyns in Cornwall, and Duchally in Scotland, all boast eco-friendly and energy saving measures and all have been awarded the Green Tourism Business Scheme silver award. Trenython was first to be reviewed since the silver awards and Resort Manager Nick Waddington is delighted to have stepped up a grade. “We work hard to conserve natural resources by ensuring the responsible use of energy, water and materials while still providing the quality of service expected by our guests, and we would not have achieved what we have, had it not been for their co-operation and support. Their backing for our common-sense energy conservation activities has helped us cut our electricity bill by £50,000 compared to two years ago,” said Nick.
