JULY/AUGUST HAPPENINGS by Antonia Hagelen-McIntosh
Letter received from Miss Harriet Brace a 7th Grader in Thomas Telford School, Telford, UK – (CLC family members)
The school Harriet attends is holding an ‘Auction of Promises’ where they ask companies and businesses to donate special prizes in order to raise money for the school. She writes. "The money that we raise at the event will be used wisely. It will be spent on equipment in all subjects: resources such as books, educational visits and extensions to the school, like our new gym."
On discussing with Richard Fletcher, Smile Foundation Chairman, he authorised that I prepare and forward a voucher for 1 week’s free accommodation in a 2-bed apartment in any of CLC’s resorts in Spain or Tenerife.
Letter received from Mrs P. Cook “happy members of CLC”
They live in a small community and once a year the residents get together to raise money for a charity and one of their methods is a ‘Grand Raffle’. Their charity this year is in aid of terminally ill children the ‘Dorian House Children’s Hospice’, Astley Village in Chorley, Lancashire. The Hospice depends on public donations to survive and is not supported from Government Funds. Mrs Cook said “Many of these children may not live to see tomorrow, but there are many more children for whom tomorrow is their ultimate dream. 80% of the local businesses support this cause and I would ask you please to do likewise.”
Having received this letter the day after the one above, I was able to have this authorised too and a similar voucher was sent.
P.A.D. – The Protection of Domestic Animals
Every year we sponsor a hole for their Annual Golf Tournament, which this year is being held in Miraflores on 6th September, which raises funds for their Centre to continue helping animals.
