Places to visit

Siam Park

New to Tenerife and already its biggest and most exciting attraction!  The park’s Far Eastern theme adds an extra exotic feel to the meandering river ride, the gigantic Wave Palace pool with its own sandy beach – where you can actually learn to surf – the thrilling, high-speed water rides and the numerous bars, beach bars and restaurants.  For smaller children, getting wet is simply a must and in their own ‘Lost City’ pool - with its waterfalls, slides and water games – they can splash around in complete safety.  With ‘full on’ excitement for the whole family, Siam Park is probably best enjoyed out of high season and definitely not to be missed!

Mount Teide National Park

'The Mountain' Video about Mount Teide

Spain’s highest mountain, Mount Teide, rises from an enormous volcanic crater 48km in circumference!  Don’t worry, the volcano is now extinct, so you can walk or take a cable car almost to the summit, where, on a clear day, the views to the other Canary Islands are breathtaking.

Aqualand

A great family fun day out, Aqualand is near Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas – with a free daily shuttle bus service to both towns.  As well as an amazing array of water slides, rides, pools and sunbed areas, there are several bars, restaurants and shops – and even a dolphin show!

Loro Parque

Now Tenerife’s second largest attraction, Loro Parque is a fascinating day out for the whole family.  Somewhere between a zoo and a theme park, it is home to over 300 species of parrot, an amazing sealion and dolphin show, an aquarium with shark tunnel, gorillas, chimpanzees, big cats, flamingos, alligators, an orchid house, a Gambian market, ‘NaturaVision’ cinema and the world’s largest penguinarium – complete with reproduction Antarctic climate! Off peak crowds are smaller, making for an even more enjoyable day out.

Barranco del Infierno

A hiker’s paradise, this lush green ravine is an oasis in the generally arid southern Tenerife landscape.  Despite its name, meaning ‘Hell’s Gorge’, the 2.5-hour return route is well signposted and, with average fitness, can easily be enjoyed before the sun reaches its peak. The walk ends at a magnificently refreshing waterfall – quite unexpected for such a dry location.

Los Gigantes

Remarkable, sheer rock walls plunge into the Atlantic Ocean from heights of 500-800m in places.  You can get close – but only by boat – or admire the incredible views from the little port of Los Gigantes, just across the bay.

Castle San Miguel

This is an evening excursion to the authentic San Miguel castle, where you will be met by the Count and the Countess as you cross the drawbridge and shown to your seat in the grand indoor arena. The entertainment begins in medieval style, accompanied by plenty of wine, and after the main show the night continues with live music and dancing in the ballroom.

One week's holiday itinerary

Day 1: Settle into your new holiday surroundings, then head off for a long, late tapas lunch in a typical Bodega.  Try some papas arrugadas (new potatoes in their skins, boiled in sea water and served with Mojo - pepper & garlic – sauce), padron peppers with chistorra (small green peppers, fried with spicy sausage) or Canarian goat’s cheese served with palm honey and, of course, a large glass - or two - of Rioja.

Day 2: Take in the fresh mountain air on an excursion to Mount Teide.  Ride up in the cable car; or if you’re feeling fit, you could walk some of the way.  After a picnic lunch, get back to the pool and then order a well-deserved cocktail before dinner!

Day 3: Pick up some bargains at one of the local markets then explore the old town centre and find a rustic restaurant for a perfect seafood treat; but make sure you’re back at the resort in time to catch the live entertainment or take your place on the bus for your evening out at the Castle San Miguel.

Day 4: Top up your tan with a day at the beach – both Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas are popular and great for water sports.  Take your time over a plate of freshly caught fish and on the way back stop off for a refreshing drink in one of the trendy, new beachfront chillout bars – or maybe indulge in some retail therapy?  It’s been a long day so, later on, why not kick back with a DVD and a takeaway pizza?.

Day 5: Phew!  Today, just relax with maybe a game of tennis, water volleyball or pool for good measure.  The resort bars and restaurants will spoil you, and, if you’re missing the football, you can be sure they’re showing the hottest Premier league games.  Later, meet up with new friends for a nightcap under the stars.

Day 6: Now that you’re used to the sun, get a taste of the Far East with a day at Siam Park, enjoying the thrilling rides, water games and maybe even a surfing lesson?  Or chill out – just close enough to one of the excellent beach bars.  Back at the resort, try the chef’s special in the restaurant and then settle down for tonight’s performance.

Day 7: It’s your final day, so take it easy and enjoy the wonderful resort where your week has just flown.  Don’t miss your last chance to savour the fabulous seafood or excellent steaks on offer at the restaurants and finish with a flourish at the on-site Flamenco show.
